Out and about in Cornwall

Cornwall has a rich history and has always had its own identity. There is evidence that the county was independent from England until as recently as 1000 years ago. In the 4th century BC, the Greek explorer and geographer Pytheas, travelled to Cornwall and was said to have described the inhabitants as "...civilised in manner and especially hospitable to strangers because of their dealings with foreign merchants." This warmth and friendliness continues to this day. There's something, if perhaps slightly intangible, that makes Cornwall different.

Our unique position in the south west of the UK means that Cornwall can be classified as having a sub-tropical climate. The Eden Project put Cornwall on the global stage a few years ago, but the county has been famous for unique gardens and vegetation for much longer.

The county has more coastline than anywhere else in England. It's also amongst the most breathtaking. We have both Lands End and the most southerly point in the UK, Lizard Point, and you are never more than an hour from the sea. Additionally, the Roseland has been designated a Heritage Coast and is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
